* I Like the way things are Now.  Why Change?
The main reason for merging is to get the Village and Town Governments together to achieve
agreed-upon objectives and complete projects that have been stalled by divided leadership and
resources.
A merger will more clearly define and account for the allocation of funds for Village and Town needs.
Restoring one government for Woodstock will bring greater efficiency, less duplication and, more
important, a stronger sense of community fo all of us.
*  How will a Merger Help Us ?
You will be aided by having a simpler, more straightforward Woodstock government and
administration when you come to Town Hall.
There will be fewer Boards and less duplication of authority, along with clearer lines
of jurisdiction and responsibility.
Merging will significantly increase Woodstock government's ability to meet needs and resolve
problems .
* How Much is this going to Cost Me ?     Will My Taxes Go Up ?
Setting aside the question of police coverage, we believe that while Town taxes may rise moderately,
Village levies will remain about the same. There may be some slight tax decreases due to elimination
of duplicated procedures and consolidation of audit costs.
* How do I know the Town will care about the Village as much as I do  ?
The Town has repeatedly proven its care and concern - just a few recent Town initiatives include,
the Elementary School Parking area, the Public Restrooms, and the High Street pedestrian bridge.
* I live in the Village.  How will a Merger Respond to our Special needs  ?
Village ordinances will remain in effect.
The beauty and character of the Village, and of nearby hamlets, will be fully respected and
not changed in any way.
The special needs and protections of the Village will be honored and continued.
* I live in the Town.  What would I get out of a Merger that I don't have Now  ?
As one community, you and everyone else will have an equal say about matters in Woodstock that
directly concern you. The Village is the center for Town residents, too, but at present you have
no voice in government decisions that impact everybody.
* What would happen to Police Coverage  ?
Once merged, Woodstock would have one Police Department, funded by all.
The New Select Board would oversee this department just as the Trustees now oversee
the department. The Town has already voted to absorb a percentage of the costs. Once merged,
revenues  would be shared
.
